Portfolio management
Your client can choose to manage the portfolio of investments held in CMI Global
Investor, CMI Portfolio or CMI Corporate Investor themselves or they can nominate
an investment adviser to do this for them.
Under CMI Global Investor and CMI Portfolio clients also have the option to nominate
a discretionary manager to act on their behalf. Please note this option is not available
for CMI Corporate Investor.
Please click on the following for further details:
Your client can appoint an investment adviser in addition to their financial adviser
to provide investment advice on their CMI Global Investor, CMI Portfolio or CMI Corporate Investor. The
financial adviser sets up and administers the bond and will often advise on the
initial investment choice. The investment adviser’s role is to manage the client’s
portfolio of investments and recommend deals on their behalf. The investment adviser is entitled
to receive a copy of the quarterly valuation statement and any other policy information
they request.
Investment advisers must have permission from the FSA to ‘manage investments’
in order to recommend deals on behalf of their client. Because the investment adviser
will be advising on investments registered in the name of CMI Insurance Company
Limited, a three-way agreement is needed to finalise the appointment. The client
and their nominated investment adviser must fill in the appropriate form below and
return it to us. We vet the agreement and providing it is accepted, we return a
signed copy to the appointed investment adviser.
If the investment adviser is not regulated by the FSA and not currently approved
by CMI Insurance Company Limited, please complete a
new investment adviser questionnaire and return it with the relevant form
below.
Your client can choose to pay the investment adviser a fee from the CMI Global Investor or CMI Portfolio, which can either be
a fixed amount or percentage of the portfolio value. All fees are deducted quarterly
on the valuation dates of the bond. The agreement and/or the fee can be cancelled
at any time in writing. This option is not available for CMI Corporate Investor.
Please note that CMI Insurance Company Limited reserves the right to cancel the agreement
if the investment adviser no longer satisfies our criteria.

Discretionary managers need to be approved by CMI Insurance Company Limited and
we currently have agreements with over seventy discretionary managers in place.
If you would like to check which discretionary managers are already approved, please
contact us.
Once a discretionary management agreement has been set up, all that is needed for
each new account is the completion of a one-page memorandum to link it to the high
level agreement. This makes the process much simpler for all concerned, as there
is no need to complete a separate full agreement for each account.
